London PrideTheLesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Pride1998is planned for on 4th. July.
Martin Corbett and the first UK Gay Pride march in 1972.
Press cuttings- Prince might hold key to Royal Park eventinThe Pink Paper, 3rd. May, 1996, issue 428, page 3. "e;A Hyde Park rock concert organised by Prince Charles could help clinch the prestigious open-air venue for Pride festival in the summer of 1999."e;
"e;The huge MasterCard Masters of Music concert for the Prince's Trust this summer will become the first rock event to take place in the Park for more than 20 years."e;
"e;But by giving the event the go ahead, Royal Parks managers have effectively overruled their previous objections to Pride celebrations using the famous Hyde Park space, say Pride Trust organisers."e;
"e;They want to use the Park to host EuroPride in 1999 which could attract hundreds of thousands of visitors from around Europe to London."e;
- Triumph for Mardi Gras may make it UK's leading gay festivalby Philip Reay-Smith inThe Pink Paper, 23rd. August, 1996, issue 444, pages 1-2. "e;This weekend's Mardi Gras in Manchester is set to snatch the crown as Britain's premier gay festival after organisers of London's gay Pride admitted: we may have got our annual event wrong."e; "e;The six-year-old Mardi Gras is expected to attract upto 100,000 people to 96 hours of clubbing, arts events and parties over four days in and around the city's gay village."e; "e;North of England TV and radio stations have been enthusiastically plugging the event all week while London's Pride won barely a mention in the straight media despite a PR company being hired to promote it say critics."e; "e;Now some Pride Trust managers want to get backing to copy Manchester by spreading the event over several days, eliminating the rush from march to festival. New plans will be discussed at a management meeting at the end of the month."e;

REGARD: National disabled Lesbian and Gay Organisation"e;REGARD was founded in 1989 to address the absence of information and lack of understanding about the reality of disabled lesbians and gay men working within the disability movement."e;
"e;Many individual lesbians and gay men had attempted to raise their issues, only to have their opinions ignored or rejected. We decided we needed the weight of an organisation for us to be taken seriously and to effectively tackle negative attitudes. An inaugural meeting was held and REGARD was formed."e;

The Knitting Circle web spaceIn the early 1990s a group of about 35 administrative and academic lesbian and gay staff at South Bank University, London, put their names on a mailing list, and on a few occasions a group of them met after work for a drink. One venue was the Gladstone pub in Lant Street which was gay at the time. This group of staff adopted the name The Knitting Circle.
When the web site was created it was also given the name The Knitting Circle. Its first outing was Wednesday, 21st. February, 1996.
The meetings of the staff group petered out but the web site continued to be hosted by London South Bank University until it moved on 1st. August, 2006.
